She works on large format ink-jet printer. Colors on the printer are very nice. But she has trouble getting those kind of colors on her small printer which she uses to send client a copy. "I do not care about monitor colors (which show very vibrant) because they do not affect my print and I got used on it." I do care about colors on my small printer because they are very different form the big one.
What Susan doesn't know:
To simulate colors of her large format printer on the small printer can be easy with color management tools. It is all about color profiles. Susan has to profile large format printer and use it as a reference (target). After she profiles the small printer, the reference from the big one can be used so her small printer simulates the big one. This color workflow can be achieved with all major graphic programs.
There is another color workflow solution for Susan: choose more common target profile, like SWOP.icc, Toyo.icc, 3M_Matchpint.icc, Process colors.icc, etc.... which are often in your system or dowloadable (comming soon in HUE & GRAY Downloads section)and make all your devices simulate that profile.
Solution for Susan: Eye-One iProof: If you want to simulate one device on another and fix your monitor display you need software/hardware combo that can handle CMYK devices as well as RGB devices (monitor, scanners, small desktop printers without RIP). buy device...
