"My job is to create layouts and send files to the printing company which is out of town. Most likely I'll see my product when is finally printed. What I find interesting, is that colors on my printer turn different from what I see on my screen. But even more interesting is that colors on the final product do not match niether my printer or monitor. For example, I have trouble with black color, which looks black on the monitor, but when printed on the brochures it looks washed out - almost like 90% gray."
What George doesn't know:
Monitor will display colors any way you want, but it has to be properly optimized and profiled. Printing company which George uses most likely has the color profile (.icc) for their printer. That profile would be extremely useful for George. But even if he gets the profile, it still doesn't mean that he would see and print the wright colors. He needs to color calibrate his system (monitor and his small printer).
Solution for George: Eye-One Photo: This very affordable solution would enable George to create custom monitor ICC profile and utilizing profile provided form printing company he would have a very accurate color simulation on his screen, So when he designs - he is looking at the true colors. His small desktop printer (inexpensive non-postscript printer with RGB based driver) would very closely simulate final output as well. buy device...
